Herodium between Herod’s death and the the Great Revolt

התקופה בין הורדוס למרד הגדול

The data with regard to this period is very restricted, as no significant structures appear to have been established, and there may have been only minor occupation of the site. Nevertheless it seems reasonable that Herodium continued to serve Herod’s heirs and the Roman governors of Judaea, and the site continues to be mentioned as an important administrative center in contemporary documents.
Some of the changes made to the Palace-Fortress, for example the interior division of the three half-towers, the closing off of the east wing of the peristyle courtyard and possibly the later narrowing of the rooms adjacent to the southern tower and the re-plastering of some of the walls, may have been carried out by various rulers after Herod’s death. Similarly, some of the later minor architectural revisions seen in Lower Herodium may also be related to this activity.
